House M.D./Nero Wolfe // House/Wilson // PG

A crossover of Nero Wolfe and House may sound strange at first, but it works amazingly well, as this story proves.

Wilson is accused of murder, and House hires New York’s best private detective to find the truth. Hwshipper does a good job of bringing Wolfe and Archie into the 21st century while keeping the fundamentals intact.

“I’ll google Dr. House, shall I?” I asked innocently.

Wolfe glared at me. “Don’t goad me, Archie. You know perfectly well that word is not a verb in this house.”

John

Dexter/Stargate: Atlantis // Sheppard/McKay // PG

This is a great crossover of Dexter and Stargate Atlantis. Creepy and funny in turns, just like the show.

My name is John. John Sheppard. I don’t know what made me the way I am, but whatever it was left a hollow place inside. People fake a lot of human interactions, but I feel like I fake them all. I fake them very well. That’s my burden I guess. I don’t blame my parents for that, Mary and Nathan Sheppard did a wonderful job raising me.

But they’re both dead now. I didn’t kill them.

Honest.

Farscape/Stargate: SG-1 // John/Aeryn // PG

It’s actually surprising I haven’t found more Farscape/SG-1 crossovers, especially since it seems I’m not the only one who got into SG-1 only because Ben Browder and Claudia Black joined the cast. (Or in my case, just Claudia Black, because I don’t think I’ve ever loved a fictional character the way I love Aeryn Sun.)

If you scroll down a bit, you’ll also find the awesome, and sad, Five times John wasn’t saved from Scorpius.

Firefly/Stargate: Atlantis // Rodney/River // PG

Crossover between SGA and Firefly. A bizarre yet strangely perfect pairing.

Buffy and Angel/Stargate: Atlantis // PG

A crossover that puts the Angel Investigations team into the Stargate Atlantis universe. Corinna does a good job of making the characters very much themselves, even in an alien landscape.

DC Comics/Smallville // Clark/Lex, Tim/Kon, Clark/Lois // PG

Oh. my. God. How much fun did I have reading this story? Kon is injured, bringing Clark and Lex closer together…and this story is so much better than that makes it sound.

I don’t care! What I care about is you’re the biggest jerk in the history of the universe,” Tim said.

“Yeah, okay, but dude!” Kon said. “They were best friends! That’s freaking insane! That’s like, if you went evil someday!”

If anyone is going to go evil, it is totally you, you asshole!” Tim yelled.

Crossover between the DC and Smallville universes.

I’ve borrowed a bunch of DC comics characters for this story; the one that I feel needs some real explanation is Kon, aka Superboy, who is the test-tube baby of Superman and Lex Luthor. (No, I am seriously not making this up. I would have, but the writers at DC generously smoke crack so we fans don’t have to.) Tim Drake is the current Robin.

There’s also a short sequel, Vacation. Tim gets jealous, and Kon gets a clue.

Anywhere You Go

Buffy and Angel/Harry Potter // Draco/Ginny, Fred/Angelina, Snape/Willow, Viktor/Hermione // R

Set after Wrecked and GOF.

I love Snape and Willow’s relationship, which is pretty cute, but otherwise this story is rather dark. The character deaths aren’t anyone we really know, but they’re still upsetting.

I really, really wish this story was finished, because it’s one of those that I don’t like stopping halfway through, and not just because of my impatience. It draws you in enough that it’s very disappointing, and jarring, to run out of story.

Up to chapter 37 so far, but hasn’t been updated in over 2 years. Caveat lector.

Marks and Scars

Apr 5, 2006

Harry Potter/Miles Vorkosigan // PG

Crossover between Harry Potter and Lois McMaster Bujold’s Vorkosigan books. Won’t make much sense if you don’t know a little about both sources.

In which two of the most intriguing characters from the works of J.K. Rowling and Lois McMaster Bujold meet for tea and, eventually, sympathy.

Without Enchantment is the sequel to Marks and Scars. No Great Magic finishes off the trilogy. There’s another related story, Denizen of the Deep, which should be read before No Great Magic.

I didn’t enjoy the stories as much as a lot of other people seem to have, but they were pretty good.

ETA: I guess I should mention that No Great Magic and Denizen of the Deep contain tie-ins to R.J. Anderson’s Darkness and Light trilogy. And also that the series inspired A.J. Hall’s Time Shall Not Mend, which is set in the same universe.

Horatio Hornblower // Sharpe/Edrington // NC-17

Horatio Hornblower/Sharpe novels

For a man who appears very little in either the books or the movies, and never even gets a first name, Major Lord Edrington makes quite a few crossover appearances. This time he and Richard Sharpe end up cut off from their retreating army and have to rely on each other to survive. I especially enjoyed Sharpe’s first impression of Edrington - he certainly seems to rub people the wrong way.

Quite a good story, well-written and well-researched.

Shutting Doors

DC Comics/The Sentinel // Jim/Blair, Batman/Robin // NC-17

And its sequels, Shutting Doors II, Shutting Doors II: Gratuitous Sex Scene, Shutting Doors III, and Silent Passage.

Much less dark than most Batman stories. Charts the development of Robin’s relationship with Batman. I really like the Dick voice. And Davy is a great OC.

Wherever You Stand A Hundred Shall Fall is an AU of the Shutting Doors universe, a crossover with The Sentinel. Also Jim/Blair. Its sequel is Castoff.

Green Ice

Jeeves & Wooster // PG

Bertie Wooster gets involved in a robbery; luckily, “Flim” Wimsey is there to help him out. It’s a crossover with the Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries, but it’s mostly about Bertie.

If you know anything about Jeeves and Wooster, you must read this story. Trust me, you’ll never be able to look at Bertie the same way again. It’s not even really an AU; more like the wonderfully plausible backstory that Wodehouse ought to have written.

Pure humour.

Lust over Pendle

Feb 11, 2005

Harry Potter/Miles Vorkosigan // Draco/Neville // R

The best thing about this novel-length story, “a comedy of manners set in the Golden Age detective thriller genre,” is that it’s only the first a whole universe of stories by A.J. Hall.

What can I say about A.J. Hall’s writing? It’s fabulous. Everyone and their dog has already recommended this story, but I figured there might be someone out there who hasn’t heard about it yet. I get something new out of this series every time I read it. I am beginning to believe that I love Lust over Pendle better than J.K. Rowling’s own works. Heresy, I know - but A.J. Hall has taken Rowling’s universe and remade it for adults.

I would suggest the following reading order, which is a bit different from the one at the Lust over Pendle site:

  1. Lust over Pendle (novel): after the war, Draco and Neville are outed to the wizarding world and caught up in a complex plot against them.
  2. Ships That Pass (short story): chronologically, this takes place before Lust over Pendle, but I think it’s better if you already know LoP Draco before you read it.
  3. Not a Whisper (short story): Draco/Neville backstory: the first night.
  4. Time Shall Not Mend (novella): crossover with Lois McMaster Bujold’s Vorkosigan series. It’s perfectly enjoyable even if you haven’t read the books, but you’ll get more out of the story if you have, and it’s a great series. The first chapter actually takes place before Not A Whisper, but the last three take place a few weeks after.
  5. Dissipation and Despair (novel): Draco and Neville are back, and trouble is once again stirring in Malfoy Intrinsica: foot-and-mouth disease is rampant, necromantic rites are being performed, Black Masses are being held, and a group of creative writers is gathering for a conference. Most of the supporting cast from Lust over Pendle are back to help Draco and Neville combat vampires, plague, and a New-Age empowerment movement.
  6. The Perilous Point (novella): Guests, both wizard and Muggle, are gathering for a wedding in Malfoy Intrinsica on Midsummer’s Eve. Meanwhile, a theatre group is putting on a performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream for their corporate sponsor, Nelcorp.
  7. Queer As Scent (novelette): a side-story focussing on Narcissa while she was pregnant with Draco.
  8. The Mark of the Beast (novelette): a side-story set in 1982, focussing on Remus Lupin.
  9. The Kindly Ones (novella): chronologically, the last in the series. Draco and Neville take a private cruise around the Greek islands, and meet up with someone they would never have expected. Remus Lupin makes an appearance, as well.

Check out Geoviki’s guide for extra LoP tidbits from A.J. Hall’s LiveJournal that you might not otherwise have seen (deleted scenes, short stories, etc.)

Birthright

The Faculty // Zeke/Casey // R

Faculty/X-Files

I know nothing about either of these fandoms. I have never seen The Faculty; all I know is that it’s about a high school, and eventually a town, that get taken over by aliens. A group of five students save the day. I have only seen one episode of The X-Files. Trust me; you don’t need to know anything about these fandoms to enjoy Birthright.

This is probably one of the more unusual love stories you’ll ever read. The story is AU: what if the invasion they stopped was part of a wider alien takeover? Well, that’s where the X-Files comes in.

ETA: Author has taken the story temporarily offline.
