I really love this story. In my (so very underinformed) opinion, it draws a nice line between showing the guys’ natural curiosity and not letting them get away with demanding Brian let them rummage through his life.

The Ways have no way of knowing what they were getting into when they find an alien on the side of the road and take it home with them. The little extra-terrestrial inserts itself into their family under the human name of Gerard and becomes a member of their family. But more than that, the bond Mikey forms with Gerard shapes their whole lives in ways no one on Earth or beyond could’ve seen coming.

Although there are several pairings, this is really more of a gen fic, with the focus more on Mikey’s life as a whole rather than on any particular romantic relationship. There is, however, a lot of sex.

The sequel, Living with Ghosts (31,826 words), follows directly from the first story (to the extent that you will probably be confused, as I was, about whether the first story is actually over.) The author is still working on the third story as of May 2011, but it isn’t finished yet, and the stories do not stand alone in any way.
