If their story were a book, things might be different in so many ways.

What We Talk About When We Talk About Wolves

Fraser planted his hands on his knees. “Diefenbaker never licks my ear.”
Ray shut off the engine. They just sat there for a few heartbeats.
“What do you mean?”
“I should think the sentence structure is perfectly clear. Diefenbaker you know. You know the concept of licking–or not, in this case. You surely can recognize the organ known as my ear.”

What he’d broken, Ray suddenly realized, was the part of him that said that hanging out in the Arctic to look for a dead guy’s hand was a really stupid idea.
I don’t really know what to say about this story, but trust me - Speranza is always brilliant.

I really haven’t recommended enough of Speranza’s stuff. She just has so much that it’s hard to choose what’s best. To describe the plot of this story would ruin it, but suffice it to say that it’s fun and hilarious.

If Bob Fraser could haunt his son, why couldn’t Holloway Muldoon? Bonus points for brief appearances by Gerome Laferette and Mama Lolla from Mojo Rising.
All the Comforts of Home

When Ray Vecchio goes north to visit Fraser, he’s a little surprised to find Ray Kowalski already there.
Vecchio’s reaction in this story is pretty believable, and the author doesn’t villify him for the sake of Fraser’s relationship with Kowalski. And I love how Vecchio knows Fraser better than anyone.
ETA: There’s an incredible sequel, Chicago Tales. Fraser and Ray visit Chicago to wrap things up, and get into some trouble with the Mob. Luckily, they’ve got Armando Langostini on their side.
Perfection in the Work

When Ray decided to stay with Fraser up here in Northwest Nowhere, he figured he was waving goodbye to a lot of the better things in life. Like indoor plumbing and radiators and TV and ever having a tan again and sinking his teeth into an extra-cheese-and-pineapple pizza that had been delivered to his door at two in the morning.
