You may have noticed that McKay/Sheppard is my OTP in this fandom (at least, as much as I ever have an OTP.) It takes a lot to make McKay/Dex appeal to me, but Hth does it easily in this story.
A little bit plotty, with a side of aliens-made-them-do-it.

Not really dark, but dark enough. Like so much of Hth’s stuff, I love the writing but wish the story was happier.
They hassled him in the airport at Detroit, and made him stand in line forever at customs. When the woman at the counter finally stamped his passport, she gave him a snide smile and said, “Welcome home.” Clark smiled back, because it always somehow seemed to him that, however far away she was, his mother would know immediately if he was ever rude to anybody for any reason.

Giles sat down beside him, carefully staring directly ahead. “What’s that?”
“Hearing me talk.”
“Nothing at all like,” Giles said, with the certainty of pure truth. “I always knew you were more than capable of talking, while I seriously doubt the physical ability of marine mammals to perform Mozart.”
Oz nodded, apparently satisfied. “It wigs some people.”
Oz and philosophy together; it makes me very happy.
