Let Go and Watch the Sunlight Bend by Cherrybina
The summer in Camelot is very hot, and neither Arthur nor Merlin are exactly sure about what they want.

The Burden of Your Blues by Staraflur
Modern boarding-school AU. A Druid cult tries to use Arthur as a vessel for an evil wizard.

Guh. In the depths of winter, it’s helpful to have someone to share your bed.
NC-17 // PWP // Romance
truth is a whisper by Seperis
To spare Arthur from one rumour, Merlin starts another. I adore the premise of this story; it’s not canon, but it’s so much fun.
ETA: And Shine has written a sequel, Ten Weeks. Oh, my.
NC-17 // Romance
The Knights Have a Thousand Eyes by Stakeaclaim
Although it’s choppy in places, with a little too much exposition, I truly adored this story. Arthur’s knights (who are charmingly hilarious) start to chase after Merlin. Arthur is less than amused.
Action // Humour // PG // Romance
Tintagel by Seperis
Arthur goes to visit his birthplace. He and Merlin find something unexpected there.
Action // Femmeslash // NC-17 // Romance

A Chuisle by Ali-chan
Slightly dark, but still a romance. When Arthur is killed, Merlin finds a way to bring him back to life–and Arthur may never forgive him.
Darkfic // NC-17 // Romance
The Route to Advancement by Magog 83
Really funny look at Arthur and Merlin’s (platonic) relationship through the eyes of one of Camelot’s more hapless knights. Vague slash undertones.
G // Gen // Humour
Needlework by Zarathuse
When Merlin tries to heal Arthur, it doesn’t work quite right. (If you’ve ever read Lois McMaster Bujold’s Paladin of Souls you’ll have the general idea.)
NC-17 // Romance
The Mirror, the Sword, and the Shield by Aelora
Merlin kills Nimueh, but she doesn’t stay dead.

The Course of True Love by Puckling
Magic turns Merlin into a girl and encourages him to have sex with Arthur.

Easy There by Syllic
Modern AU. Arthur, Merlin, and Lancelot as Oxford rowing Blues. I really enjoy it when an author takes things she seems to love and know a lot about and uses them as the basis for a story–in this case, rowing and Oxford.
AU // NC-17 // Romance
Woke Up New by Zee
An incompetent sorceress’s botched spell causes Arthur and Merlin to switch bodies.
NC-17 // Romance
Quickening Days by Fahye
Merlin and Arthur, along with everyone else in Camelot, get caught in a time loop. Somehow this leads to Merlin wearing a dress. I love this fandom.
NC-17 // Romance // Sci-fi/Fantasy
Damsel in Distress by The Hoyden
Merlin is captured by a dragon, and Arthur follows. It’s funnier than that sounds.
The dragon insisted on spitting a small flame at the branches Merlin had gathered that evening for a fire, and he and Arthur ate bread and cheese while the dragon lolled about and made occasional comments about maybe having eaten too much.
“I told you not to eat that third cow,” Arthur said heartlessly.
Humour // PG // Romance
Drastically Redifining Protocol by Prufrock
Modern AU. Arthur, Prince of Wales, meets Merlin Emrys in a hospital supply cupboard.
ETA: I didn’t realize there were sequel ficlets! The link now goes to the series page at AO3.
AU // NC-17 // Romance
Favorite by Shalott
It’s because I love Shalott’s writing that I got interested in Merlin in the first place. This isn’t actually the first of her Merlin fics that I read, but it’s my favourite.
Arthur and Merlin start having sex. Lots of sex. And then things get…official.
NC-17 // Romance // Top 100
So, yes, despite the fact that I don’t actually watch TV, I have managed to find a new fandom: BBC’s Merlin. Okay, the show is pretty awful in a lot of ways, but the characters are awesome, and the acting is much better than the scripts. And OMG, is this show ever slashy.
Expect to see quite a few Merlin recs over the next couple of weeks, as well as several dozen other recs that have been hanging around for the past year. I am determined to finally clear out my recs folder.
