Atlantis

Whatever it is that makes authors in this fandom write excellent girl!John stories, I’m so, so grateful.

Atlantis

Rodney and Ronan date. Kind of.

NC-17 // Romance

Atlantis

You may have noticed that McKay/Sheppard is my OTP in this fandom (at least, as much as I ever have an OTP.) It takes a lot to make McKay/Dex appeal to me, but Hth does it easily in this story.

A little bit plotty, with a side of aliens-made-them-do-it.

NC-17 // Romance

Atlantis

And its sequels, Skintight, Flesh Wounds, and Posture.

Rodney finds out that John likes to dress in women’s clothes. This could have been played for humour, but Toft takes it much further than that, and turns the concept into an excellent story. One of my favourites in the fandom so far. And I don’t even like crossdressing stories (or at least, I didn’t think I did!)

NC-17 // Romance

Atlantis

John Sheppard wakes up straight, which puts an understandable crimp in his relationship with Rodney.

One day, about two months ago, I thought, “John Sheppard is *so gay* that he couldn’t be in a ‘woke up gay’ story. He’d have to wake up straight instead.” And that is what happened here.

Het // NC-17 // Romance // Sci-fi/Fantasy

Whatever excuses I may have for recommending Pharaohs on top of all the other times I’ve rec’d Parhelion on this site, none of them apply to this story. My only explanation is that it’s just that good.

NC-17

I kinda promised myself not to recommend any more of Parhelion’s stuff, because I have a kind of unofficial rule about not recommending too many of one author’s stories in a single fandom, but this story was too good to pass up. And it’s Archie/Saul, whereas Parhelion always writes Nero/Archie, and it’s the first new Nero Wolfe fic she’s written in a long time, so…enjoy.

PG

Funny summary of the show.

The names of the boys and of some of the subsidiary characters correspond to numbers in various languages. There’s no real point to this, and it doesn’t accomplish much beyond providing some extraordinarily goofy names. Quatre Rebarba Winner, this means you.

Duo is notable for being least angst-ridden of the five. He’s got a great waist-length braid, but Duo, what’s up with the jodhpurs?

The Silmarillion

And its sequel, Thrice for Honour.

Starlight is actually gen, though rated R for violence and mature themes; on a winter night, strangers arrive seeking shelter at Maglor’s camp. Thrice for Honour is slash, and contains graphic BDSM sex, as Elrond is initiated into a set of Noldorin sexual rites.

BDSM // Coming of Age // Gen // NC-17 // PWP // Sci-fi/Fantasy

John takes Rodney home to meet his parents.

NC-17 // Romance // Torture

Atlantis

Once again, John gets turned into a woman. SGA has more cliché-fic than I’ve ever seen in a fandom—I didn’t think anything would ever top the various Star Trek incarnations, but SGA probably has more than all of them put together.

Oh, and it’s not really mpreg.

Het // NC-17 // Romance

Atlantis

John’s a girl and a virgin—two cliché-fics in one! Have I mentioned how much I love this fandom?

NC-17

Atlantis

When Rodney accidentally travels into the past, John reads his diary for clues on how to retrieve him.

PG // Romance

Atlantis

Words (or at least, my words) can’t express how perfect this story is. Making John Sheppard believable as a virgin is no easy task, but this fic succeeds in doing just that.

NC-17 // Romance

Atlantis

Ancient tech gives Rodney mind-reading powers.

NC-17 // Romance // Sci-fi/Fantasy

After Home, Lindsey returns to L.A.

NC-17

Dawn gets a surprise when she finds out her nice, well-adjusted boyfriend is adopted. And then he takes her to meet his real father.

AU. What if Cordelia never started working for Angel after they met at the party in City Of?

AU // Character Death // Darkfic // Extreme Violence // Het // NC-17 // Non-con // Rape // Romance // Torture

While Angel’s still a puppet, he and Spike fight some vamps. The image of puppet!Angel wringing out his arm after he comes in from the rain will stay with me for a long time. Fanart’s usually not my thing, but my God, this is excellently drawn and hilarious. There’s nothing funnier than puppet!Angel, after all.

The subtext of homosexuality began to put Hollywood in a quandry, however. Because they shoved their gay characters into symbolic closets, the audience’s ability to look for and read that symbolism grew, thus creating subtext where it wasn’t always wanted. This, then, gave rise to need for more symbolism, to show where the homosexuality began and ended.

One of my favourite fandom essays.
