Stakes by One Person
Set while Spike is living with Xander in Season 7. It’s the first fic written kinda-sorta for me, which is pretty exciting. Especially since it’s really, really good–Xander and Spike sound just like they do in my head.
Watching Spike wake up is a moment of truth; this is when Xander finds out if his day is going through Door Number 1 – batshit, furniture-chewing crazy, Door Number 2 – “My undead roommate cries and cuts himself”, or Door Number 3 – “the monster I always hated is in there somewhere.”

And its sequel, The Next in Line.
It’s actually The Next in Line that I like the best, but Kaleidoscope is very short, so read it first.
Chloe isn’t pleased to find out what she means to Clark.

Omiai by Rose Emily
There’s a Clark/Chloe prequel, Blush, as well as two sequels, The Oak Tree and the Cypress and The Sink That Ate Christmas.
Marriage AU. Sort of like a gay Harlequin novel, only so. much. better. Very long and very satisfying. Love this story.

Conflicts of Interest by Prufrock
And its sequel, Visiting Hours.
Two very long, very good stories told from the perspective of Lex’s son, Conner Clark Luthor. Extremely well-written, cute without being too sappy, and with great original characters. And her portrayal of Lex makes me love him even more than I did already.
Conflicts of Interest is mostly gen, since the main character is only nine years old.
Conner almost always understood things when his dad explained them nice and slow, with big hand motions and lots of pictures. For the Masturbation Is Just Fine And A Preferable Option To Premature Sexual Experimentation Or God Forbid Intercourse But Please Don’t Let Me Ever Accidentally See You Doing It Because I Will Die speech, his dad made a PowerPoint presentation, complete with pictures of locks on doors.
Do click on the link to Lex’s masturbation PowerPoint presentation. It’s too funny.

And Dark Our Celebration Was by Hth
Not really dark, but dark enough. Like so much of Hth’s stuff, I love the writing but wish the story was happier.
They hassled him in the airport at Detroit, and made him stand in line forever at customs. When the woman at the counter finally stamped his passport, she gave him a snide smile and said, “Welcome home.” Clark smiled back, because it always somehow seemed to him that, however far away she was, his mother would know immediately if he was ever rude to anybody for any reason.

The Butterfly Effect by The Spike
Clark/Lex sort of implied.
After Hourglass, Lex isn’t satisfied.
He straps himself in and sets his things, including a half a dozen water bottles, onto the seat and rolls up his sleeve. Ties off the tourniquet. Allows himself one last stall — turns on the cd player. Ramones. I Wanna Be Sedated. Pretty much perfect. And gets the needle out and fills it.
664… Essence of Oracle. Liquid Sybil. The marketability potential is huge on name alone.
And then there’s nothing but him and the needle and Lex has to stop pretending that this anything but what it is.
And he punches the spike into his vein and shoots himself full of tomorrow…

Lex Luthor, Ace Reporter by Serafina
AU, with Lex and Lois Lane switching roles. Past Lex/Lois, but no actual het during the story. Clark becomes Lex’s partner at the Daily Planet.
Lex grinned in delight and took Clark’s hand. “But he is cute,” Lex said, and squeezed Clark’s hand. Cute actually didn’t do him justice; beautiful was closer, but Lex had a rule about sleeping with coworkers. He’d made it just three weeks ago, and so far, he was doing well.
There’s a really great Clark/Morgan Edge prequel, Metropolis Confidential, but don’t read it until you’ve finished Lex Luthor, Ace Reporter, since it contains significant spoilers for that story.

Three Impossible Things by Jenn
Lex has finally found a woman he may be serious about. Clark is less than thrilled.
“What do you want to do?”
“Not be so glad you skipped out on a date. Lena’s leaving tomorrow too, isn’t she?” Clark’s forgotten that until now, and it’s another kind of warmth when Lex smiles and shrugs.
“I’m going to New York in a few days. She understands.” Of course she does—women that don’t get it don’t make the cut. Clark is Lex’s Best Friend. Priorities are set. And Clark’s gotten so used to that, so used to being Lex’s priority, first and foremost and all of that.
Excellent writing.

Skinned by Thamiris
I very possibly need to stop recommending Thamiris’s Smallville fanfic. And I will, as soon as she stops writing stories like this.
“You should be. That’s why we’re here. On a wild dog hunt. We’re not here so I can fuck you against a tree.” Clark’s long, naked body stretched against an oak, arms over his head, moaning into grey bark as Lex rocks into him. “No.”
“I want you to, Lex. Isn’t that why you came out here with me?”
“What about the dog?” In an alternate universe somewhere, Lex’s double steals all the good lines.
“I’m not into that kind of thing,” Clark says. “I just want you.”
“Don’t try to be funny now, Clark.”
“When can I be funny? After?”

Meanwhile, back in Metropolis. by Punk
Clark is having some trouble keep his identities separate. And there are some gross worms.
“Just tell me why you need a particle accelerator,” you ask reasonably, or as reasonably as anyone wearing a spandex cape and red go-go boots can. Your people had all the fashion sense of a Swedish disco.
He must be thinking the same thing. “It goes with my outfit.”
You shake your head, tuck the metal coil under your arm, and fly off.
“We have reservations at nine!” Lex calls after you, shaking his fist. “Wear a tie!”

Also Clark/m.
“I wouldn’t have pegged you for a sci-fi geek.”
“Geek?” Lex sent Clark a smoldering look. “You do know who you’re speaking to, don’t you?”
“Lex Luthor, sci-fi geek?”
AU with Clark as rent boy. Some things may change, but Lex is just as fucked up in any universe.

“What, you don’t have pictures like that on your walls?”
“Well, Curtis Martin looks pretty passionate, but I’m reasonably sure it’s about, you know, football.”
Lex snickered. “How ’bout you, Clark? Are you passionate about…football?”
“That was a remarkably sleazy pregnant pause, Lex.”
“I do my best.”

Golden by CJ, Reetchick
Lex drives Clark to Metropolis for an orientation weekend at Met U. Lex gets jealous, Clark is an alien, and Lionel Luthor is Evil.
“Sir, would you care for dessert?” The server was a professional. In no way did he imply that it was odd for Lex to still be sitting at the table ten minutes after his dining companion had gotten up to leave.
Lex would factor that into the tip.
I think this will definitely be one of my favourite Smallville fics, although I hesitate to make that judgement until I’ve read a story at least twice.
