The thing about best friends in a small town is that you don’t get to choose. Instead, you get exactly the person you need. It goes that way with Arthur and Eames. Maybe it’s because both of them aren’t made for small town life, not at all, and so instead of growing to fit the town, they grow to fit together.

Honestly, there are things I love about these fics and things I don’t. They hit some of my intimacy kinks really hard, but they’re also way too sentimental for my taste. The series is also crying out for at least one more installment, with some fairly important future developments left hanging.

The sequel, Living with Ghosts (31,826 words), follows directly from the first story (to the extent that you will probably be confused, as I was, about whether the first story is actually over.) The author is still working on the third story as of May 2011, but it isn’t finished yet, and the stories do not stand alone in any way. Be warned if you start reading this before the third story is posted that there is no resolution of any kind at the end of the second story.

Now, in between drawing, avoiding bullies, running an incredibly serious tabletop RP game, failing out of math, and hanging out with friends, Gerard is also busy kind of falling for this asshole who’s way too young for him. It’s not what he planned on, but it’s what’s happening. In conclusion: high school sucks.
This fic is actually the sequel to another, Locker Room Adventures (Aren’t Usually Like This), and there’s a link to that story at the top of the page. However, I don’t really like the story much; it’s all right, but this one is so much better. Basically, Evan working out how to have a relationship with Johnny.
