The Difference Engine

Oh my god, I love this story! John is a robot.
SGA fandom kicks so much ass.
Unrealized Peacekeeper
Apr 11, 2008
This is a multi-part, in-progress AU spinoff from Unrealized Realities, exploring how John Crichton might have come to be a Peacekeeper Captain. Although it’s unfortunately not finished yet, the first two seasons (up until When the Chips are Down) are complete, and the latest update (The Devil You Know) was posted March 22, 2008, so it’s still being updated!
In Unrealized Peacekeeper, Tauvo Crais manages to avoid a collison with John’s module, so the escaping prisoners on Moya don’t bother to recapture John and Aeryn. Instead, John is put to work on wormhole tech by Captain Crais.
I love this story so much. The characterizations are wonderful, and so is the plot. It manages to be faithful to the big events of Farscape canon, while still telling its own story. If it’s ever complete, it may rival In the Company of Ghosts as my favourite Farscape story.
Clean Plate Club

AU. Rodney is a food stylist; John is a fashion photographer. There are further stories in the same universe in her SGA index, but I’m too lazy to link to them right now.
King of Wishful Thinking

Honor Amongst Thieves
Feb 14, 2008
AU. Vala Mal Doran crash-lands on a world where she can’t communicate with the natives. Luckily, there’s a man with amnesia who seems to speak her language. In fact, his immense skill with languages makes him a valuable parter in the treasure-hunting business. Long, fun, a little too sappy at the end for my taste, but overall quite enjoyable.
There are two short companion pieces: Honor Among Thieves: Points of View, showing the reactions of some of the people Daniel and Vala meet during their adventures, and Honor Among Thieves: First Christmas, the title of which is fairly self-explanatory.

In the Company of Ghosts
Jan 29, 2008
A long, sprawling AU, and definitely one of the best Farscape fics ever written. The prowler that collides with John’s module in the pilot is Aeryn Sun’s, and Tauvo Crais is the one swept along on Moya’s starburst. A Moment to Ourselves is the NC-17 coda.
KoddiakkeMax does such a clever job of re-imagining Farscape canon. All the details are perfect; everyone is so perfectly in character, because we can watch how different events change them from their canon selves. There are lots of well-drawn original characters, too, and a brilliant plot.
In the Company of Ghosts makes my top ten list, because it does what the very best fanfic always does to me: makes me wish it was canon.
Without Love
Nov 13, 2007
AU. John is still heartbroken after the death of his lover. Rodney needs a place to work in peace.
The Road to Nevada
Nov 13, 2007
AU. It’s 1938, and John Sheppard hears about a piloting job up in Canada. It turns out his new employer is involved in some dangerous work, and John and Rodney end up running for their lives.
80 Proof

And its sequel, Pier 8.
John is a lifeguard. Rodney visits the beach with his family.
101 Ways to Get Lucky (In Love)
Nov 13, 2007
AU. John is a relationship coach, and Rodney is a rich businessman who needs dating advice.
I’m not usually a fan of kidfic, but there seems to be a rule that kids in SGA fic are always made of awesome.
“Call him, call him now!” Rodney waved his hands wildly. “Tell him what an absolute emergency this is. If I’m going to be married before the stockholder’s mid-year meeting, I’m going to need professional help.”
“You don’t say,” Mildred said under her breath.
“I heard that!”
He was tempted to fire her, but he didn’t have complete confidence she’d agree to be rehired.

Prince Charming
Nov 12, 2007
The ever-popular Bachelor Auction cliché.
He took a deep swig of his beer and motioned impatiently at the pretty gigolo in his designer suit. “Look, I’m sure you’re very good at what you do– I mean, it’s obviously paying off for you–but I’m not really interested. I’ve already got plans for this hellish evening.”
The man’s expressive eyebrows rose almost into his equally-expressive hair, that seemed to be going in three directions at once. Rodney wasn’t sure what that hair was trying to say, but it was saying it quite vehemently. “Flying?”
The Stargate Atlantis Publishing AU
Nov 11, 2007
I think the title says it all, or at least most of it. I’m not a big fan of Sheppard/Dex outside of OT4’s, but I’m not opposed to it, and this story is really good. And the difference between John and Ronon’s perspectives is startling, and evidences real talent.
Mirror Dance
Nov 11, 2007
The premise behind this is…such a strange idea. It’s cliché-fic that hasn’t yet become a cliché, and done really well.
An AU where Carson’s gene therapy has an unforeseen side effect. And it’s not exactly a bodyswap fic.
The Best Things in Life are Free
Nov 10, 2007
High school AU. Apparently based on Can’t Buy Me Love, though I can’t comment on that as I’ve never seen it.
Small Primes and Square Roots
Nov 10, 2007
AU in which John agrees to be, basically, a sperm donor for Jeannie McKay. I don’t know what it is about this fandom, but for some reason, the kids in Stargate fanfic manage not to be annoying.
“I want to go over to Corrie’s–”
“Let’s see,” Rodney began, hands on his hips, “can we phrase that as a question?”
“Let’s see,” Sara drawled, matching his pose, “can *we* go over to Corrie’s tonight and watch movies?”
“Hm,” Rodney said, because it was always important to give the impression that you were taking your kids seriously and thinking about the ideas they were presenting to you, not just making a snap decision without giving their suggestions the proper consideration they deserved. “No!”
Take Clothes Off As Directed

Atlantis
This is actually an AU of an AU. The original stories by Xanthe are linked at the top of the page, and you’ll want to read them before you read Helen’s fic, because it won’t make complete sense without them.
I debated with myself whether to recommend Xanthe’s stories as well, because I did enjoy them, but ultimately I found that the light tone of the stories, in contrast with the subject matter, made me just uncomfortable enough not to.
Another Life

AU. What if Cordelia never started working for Angel after they met at the party in City Of?
Protocol
Jun 14, 2007
So very AU—crackfic at its best. There isn’t really any BDSM or non-con, but there are flavours of both.
My lame summary-writing skills aren’t up to tackling this story; you’ll just have to read it for yourself.
